Record Grading System:
MINT or M: This record looks perfect and has no flaws. Never been handled. No wear whatsoever.
NEAR MINT or NM, M- : This vinyl record looks close to perfect. A very minor scuff or two that does not affect the sound in any way is the maximum amount of wear it can have. Furthermore, it should play over the flaw with no affect on the sound. The cover looks close to perfect with only very minor signs of shelf wear along its edges.
EXCELLENT or EX: Minor scuffs that are not very noticeable. There may be a few scuffs but there are NO scratches. Should play all the way through with no hiccups or skips and at the most has some very minor and low background noise. Cover: Artwork looks very presentable and is fully visible. Minor ring wear is okay. Some minor creases and / or wear at the corners is acceptable, but this must be minor and not an eyesore. There can be no seam splits or writing or any signs of taping.
VERY GOOD PLUS or VG+: The vinyl record will show wear and surface scuffs. Though the vinyl still has much of its original glossy luster, there will be flaws to the vinyl surface that are visible to the naked eye. COVERS: A clean cover that looks presentable but at the same time looks like it has been handled over the years showing all around lighter signs of use. There is likely some minor ring wear. It may also have some minor wear to the seams or spine, but no tears or holes. Corners can show some white and maybe have faint creases but nothing to detract from the cover's artwork. No writing or taping of split seams.
VERY GOOD or VG: This is a vinyl record that is good enough. Expect surface noise when played. The songs should overpower the background noise. Vinyl surface has some of its original gloss but will show signs of use - scuff marks and possibly superficial scratches. It should play without skipping all the way through but it may have a few popping noises. VG covers will show handling and shelf wear but they do not look "ugly" - just that they have been well used through the years. There may be some seam splitting but nothing too major. There will be the kind of ring wear where the ink of the artwork has started to wear off around the circle shape of the disc inside. There could be some writing on the cover but no large letters or drawings - only a small name. It will look aged and the colors of the cover may be faded a little due to age.
