This
Capitol Souvenir Record (Capitol SPRO-2905/06) was issued in 1965 to celebrate
the grand opening of Capitol Records 3rd U.S. pressing plant in
Jacksonville Illinois. It was made in the most limited of issues and was never ever offered for sale to the public !!
This
amazing Capitol Compact 33 Souvenir Record plays at 33 1/3 speed and
features the top 15 Capitol
artists, including The Beatles, Beach Boys, Frank Sinatra, plus many
others. It was given to the top executives of Capitol as a
free gift during tours of the new facility. It is unknown how many were
actually pressed. The back of the sleeve features statements from 3
Capitol Record executives, including Alan Livingston, the president of
Capitol Records, and the person who signed the Beatles to the label. If
you own Bruce Spizer's brilliant book, The Beatles' Story on Capitol
Records: Part Two (2000) ,you will find a stunning picture of the exact
sleeve
and record on pages 231 and 232 along with a brief description of the
history of this rarity. Sought after by many collectors, including Beach
Boys and Sinatra collectors, this record is most famous and highly
sought after by most collectors across the globe because of the
inclusion of the Beatles I Want To Hold Your
Hand. This record and sleeve are also featured in Perry Cox's
indispensable price guide, The Beatles Memorabilia & Record Price

Capitol
celebrated the opening if its third pressing plant in Jacksonville,
Illinois,
with a compact 33 containing songs recorded by its most
profitable
artists. Company president Alan Livingston wrote in the sleeve notes:
"This
new facility is more than the result of our ever-growing production
demands,
it is to us at Capitol the fulfillment of a long-time dream - The
world's
first completely automatic twelve-inch record manufacturing plant. We
are
very proud of our achievement, and of vice president George Jones and
the others who envisioned it long before it became a reality." This new
Capitol Jacksonville pressing plant was considered "The House The
Beatles Built" !!
