Fans of NEU! and CAN should already have this one in the shopping cart - the compelling and relentlessly engrossing debut album from Mexico City's proto-kraut and post-whatevers Sei Still. From the word go, or specifically 'Blumenkriege', it hooks you in with equal parts locked groove and mysterious looped vocals, as hallucinogenic as it is hypnotic. Then it refuses to let go, motoring its way through seven lengthy adventures in atmospheric yet direct sounds. Tracks such as 'Fortuna' have more than an air of Joy Division to them, while elsewhere they take their driving attitude and let it run beneath synth refrains and space saws, nodding to more psychedelic and progressive guitar heroes. An almost intimidating depth, then, the sense of space adding stacks of atmosphere to arrangements that gradually grow and mutate into incredibly mesmerising tracks.
