When it comes to fiendishly floor-friendly, rave-igniting house, techno and electro fusions, Steel City Dance Discs usually hits the spot. Certainly this debut outing from Mesme - a new signing for Mall Grab's popular imprint - is both surprisingly assured and deliciously tough. Check first the bass-heavy electro swing of opener "Ghosting", before admiring the devilishly sweaty (and weighty) broken techno business of "My Blunt" and the more up-tempo, ghetto-tech/Aux 88 style electro fusion of "Smooth Alligator". Over on side B she wraps ghostly chords and cut-up female vocal snippets around a chunky, post-electro beat ("Now I'm Sick") and reaches for waves of glistening synthesizer melodies on the brain-dance style bustle of "Polygon Lover".
