While most editions of the "Many Faces Of" compilation series will be of little interest to electronic music fans, this volume should be essential listening to anyone with even a passing interest. It focuses on legendary synth-pop sorts Depeche Mode and gathers together tracks from spin-off bands, collaborations, little-known remixes by band members past and present and cover versions of their best work by other acts. While highlights come thick and fast throughout, our current favourites include Martin Gore's moody electroclash remix of Senor Coconut's "Smooth Operator", Vince Clarke's cheeky Italo-disco collaboration with West India Company (a cover of "Ave Maria"), Nouvelle Vague's cheery cover of "Master & Servant" (in which Martin Gore provides backing vocals) and Enrico Cacace's wonderful instrumental tribute to "Policy Of Truth".
