Blue Funk first surfaced on Relief Records way back in 1994, and helped establish DJ Sneak as one of Chicago house's most forthright talents. It remains something of a stone cold classic, so it's nice to see Chiwax giving it a deserved reissue. Like the original issue, it begins with the loopy, hard-wired Chi-town stomp of "The Lights (Part 1)", before rushing headlong into the "French Kiss" style riffs and handclap-heavy percussion of "The Lights (Part 2)". Flip for "Amiz", an acid-flecked shuffler supposedly inspired by Larry Heard's "Play It Out", and "Flip It", a classic Sneak banger that expertly combines wild, cut-up stabs with bombastic, in-your-face beats. Still crazy, after all these years.
