This seminal rock opera moment was well-documented, as it was originally banned by some major music outlets, thanks to its extreme lyrical content - a sin committed in dire combination with a lack of a parental advisory sticker. Cementing Savatage's rep as a heavy metal powerhouse rivalling that of Megadeth and Pandemonium, it was later revealed that this widespread 'bannage' was a publicity stunt staged by Atlantic Records to attract morbid intrigue to the band. But now that this is a well-loved record, we don't need PR stunts: high-mixed guitar solos from Criss Oliva, and balladic, demonic vocals from his brother Jon, abound; both sound gargantuan on this new Earmusic reissue, this time in limited 180-gram, pop-up gatefold LP form.
