Edward Norton's big screen re-imagining of Jonathan Lethem's 1999 neo-noir crime novel "Motherless Brooklyn" has received plenty of rave reviews, with a number of critics singling out the soundtrack for particular praise. Released here on vinyl, it's largely the work of British composer Daniel Pemberton and jazz musician Wynton Marsalis, with the completed music joining the dots between evocative 1950s jazz (to fit in with the era in which the movie is set), darkly chilling neo-classical, and - more surprisingly - the synthesizer-based cinema music of Vangelis. Also included is a specially commissioned track from Radiohead's Thom Yorke - undoubtedly a highlight - some vintage Charlie Parker and a fresh recording of Yorke's track in the style of a Miles Davis ballad.
