Epitaph Records are on a reissuing roll, focusing their efforts on Every Time I Die and the smorgasboard of metalcore albums they've released since 2000. 'Ex Lives' is their sixth album, and this time comes to a limited edition magenta vinyl edition. A clean yet unrelenting onslaught of screamo noise, every track is a curt burst of pain - 'Holy Book Of Dilemma' and 'A Wild Shameless Pain barely break - hardly building a sense of structure before moving onto the next track. Even echoes of country music are matched by hardcore crunch. As Buckley notes, it wasn't without its complications; in order to write the lyrics, the band had to painstakingly "pay attention to the defeatism that the music suggested".
