Originally composed and performed in 1993 as a choral piece, but later expanded and reworked (with the addition of sweeping new orchestral parts) to tie in with a NASA mission to Mars, Mythodea is one of Vangelis' most grandiose pieces - and that's saying something. Here issued on vinyl for the first time, the piece has lost none of its lustre, with Vangelis delivering a suite of almost operatic compositions that combine stunning choral vocals (of lyrics in ancient Greek, no less), with simply stunning orchestration, occasional ambient electronics, stirring harps and a mixture of soaring, war-of-the-worlds type movie themes and quiet, contemplative moments.
