A limited-edition (2,000 made) box set of four vinyl seven-inches that acts as an alternative, or supplement, to the Hype! CD soundtrack. So what's the difference, you ask? Well, you get 11 tracks instead of 22, although the songs by the Mono Men and Young Fresh Fellows are not on the CD. You still get items by Mudhoney, Nirvana, Soundgarden, the Fastbacks, and the Wipers, although those are the same ones that are on the CD. On the other hand, each 45 has a different color of vinyl, there's a fold-out poster, and the whole thing is encased in box. That won't matter to most listeners, who will find the CD to be far and away a better value. But as long as there are scum-record collectors out there -- an audience that Sub Pop has cultivated from the beginning -- releases such as this one, more interesting for their packaging and rarity than their content, will continue to appear...(AllMusic)
