Song topics range from love & freedom, to social issues as in the case of Papa Don't Preach, which speaks to teenage pregnancy. It received acclaim, with critics complimenting the album as the archetype of the late '80s to early '90s pop albums & praise on how Madonna's voice sounded stronger, commending her skills as a singer/songwriter & entertainer.
