TRUE M- VINYL, VG(+) JACKET IN SHRINK

CONDITION DETAILS:

VINYL (M-):  This is an original first pressing from the Columbia Terre Haute plant on the distinctive and colorful Windfall label. The disc is a bona fide Near Mint copy and shows very little signs of use or play, the worst being a couple miniscule transparent slide scuffs.  The disc is virtually flawless and plays accordingly. Inner grooves are virtually silent.  A real collector-grade piece of vinyl. Not even a spindle mark. It has been 100% play tested on a Technics SL-1500 Manual Turntable with a Shure M-92 cartridge/stylus at 1.5 grams.

JACKET (VG+):  The jacket is in full original untorn shrink wrap, neatly clear-taped to the open edge. The obvious defect is that there is wrinkling, paper cracking, minor paper peeling and staining from old exposure to water on the bottom 1/3 of the cover. The top 2/3 are fine, and the seams, spine and corners nice, even the ones on the bottom affected by the h2o. There are no cracks, splits or separations. The jacket is fully serviceable and all graphics, artwork and text are plain and full.

INSERTS:  None, as issued. Generic, original plain paper sleeve.

PERSONAL NOTES ABOUT THIS ALBUM:  Personally, this is one of the better LPs to be released in 1969, and one of the great debut LPs ever made. Leslie West made his fame and name more so with the follow-up LP Mountain Climbing which featured the big, breakthough hit Mississippi Queen.  Unfortunately, this one was sorely missed by most, and undeservedly so.  First of all, this thing is chock full of great blues-rock songs, most with a poppish and melodic twist, all but one of which was self-penned by West and the rest of the band, especially Felix Pappalardi. By this time, Pappalardi was fresh from getting Cream off the ground with their first 3 LPs, and this was a nice stepping stone into being a complete contributor as a full band member.  And contribute he does: as producer, songwriter, arranger, bassist and keyboardist.  Blessed with one of the "gruffier" bass tones around, his heavy sound provides a tough foundation for West's gritty, overdriven Gibson Les Paul (?) leads and rhythms.

Singling out songs is a worthless exercise because there's not a single filler among the 11 tracks, but if forced, I'll go with the heavy opener Blood of the Sun, a driving riff-based rocker, that points to what's to come in the remaining grooves, and Southbound Train, a pure blues-based guitar runaway gasser. P.S. Long Red is a perfect follow-up to Blood.. with its circus-like keyboard and mostly acoustic background - AND the tastiest lead licks during the fade-out that you'll ever wanna hear.

GENERAL NOTES:   I describe my records with as many details as possible, because I want you to get what you think you're getting.  I have been a buyer of records on eBay for many years and I know just how sparsely or inaccurately described so many records are.  I want this to be a positive buying experience for you.  My photos accurately show the full jacket (front and back), full disc (front and back), special sleeves or inserts (front and back), as well as an angle view of the spine.  All my records have been shelf-stored vertically in a non-smoking home since their purchase.  Once in my home, they have only been played on high-quality vintage turntables using audiophile-level cartridges and styli.
