Pink Floyd : Meddle A-7/B-6 Early Press w/Third Ear Band Alchemy Label on S2

This early pressing plays with stunning quality on both sides with a clarity, depth and resonance you rarely find today.  It is a FINAL UPGRADE archive pressing and the classic 'Echoes' is phenomenal in every way.  As detailed below it has to be the most spectacular, the most 'complete' version I have ever listened to - there is no interference at all and the sonic quality is exceptional.  Oh and S1 is superb also!  The vinyl is visually stunning and has clearly hardly ever been played based on the audio and that there is barely any spindle wear.

The fully textured gatefold is in beautiful condition with barely any wear, a stunning example.  The front and back cover are pristine and for once the spine is in superb order and the 'white' interior is as close to pristine as is possible.  Near Mint is a honest assessment of this cover and the original EMI inner is also in great condition.

You might think an A7/B6 press is nothing special but this one is a genuine rarity in that it has the Third Ear Band - Alchemy label on S2.  It is also an Harry T. Moss 'cut' and any album mastered by him is always very collectable.  Perhaps due to that very reason it is well documented that the A7/B6 press is known for its 'advanced' sonic quality so when you find one that is as 'clean' and as unplayed as this one the playback is phenomenal.   This one has been so well preserved from day one and is a true archive time warp classic.

Visual grading
The vinyl is in superb condition and still has a lovely glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  There is just a little 'fading' on S1 but it is so faint you can only see it when held at a certain angle, it is very minor.  Under a strong light I can only see a handful of very faint sleeve removal hairlines and this is easily one of the cleanest pressings I have found.  There is only one small spindle trace on each side and it is patently obvious it has hardly been played based on this and the stunning quality of the audio.  The yellow/green Harvest labels have lost none of their original colour and have no marking or writing either.
Play grading
The very quiet 'wind' intro on 'One Of These Days' plays so clearly with barely any of the 'background' that you so often find.  There are no ticks or clicks etc and you can hear each 'note' with stunning precision.  There is a very gentle hiss but is barely audible as it is so quiet, more the needle running over the grooves truth be told.  Water's first iconic bass section definitely has a greater depth and power compared to the earlier pressings and it sounds fantastic here!  There is no interference and this sonic quality is kept up as Mason comes in soon followed by Gilmour of course.  The next 'stand alone' bass section plays with breathtaking clarity and again the audio is so strong and deep.  The 'vocal' (!) is 'as new' and as the volume increases you cannot fault the playback.  The audio here delivers on so many levels - tremendous power and definition and NO interference.  I cannot emphasise enough just how strong and clear the audio is and you can turn it up to max with no fear of distortion.  The closing 'wind' section plays with sublime clarity also and it's not often I grade this opening classic as Mint- but it is deserved here in my opinion.
The acoustic intro on 'A Pillow Of Winds' plays perfectly and the first verse has only a couple of barely audible dust ticks.  It continues to play beautifully with no intrusion and the clarity of sound is faultless.  Each note is so sharp and precise and Mint- is again fair.
The intro on 'Fearless' plays with a clarity that belies its age and the opening vocal section is flawless.  The mid instrumental is nigh on perfect with just one very light tick and the final verse also plays with stunning clarity.  I only detected two mega light ticks at the start but they are so quiet an totally non-intrusive.  The clarity and definition throughout is so impressive and the 'You'll never walk alone...' crowd section is like the vinyl was only pressed yesterday!  Another Mint- track.
'San Tropez' plays with great clarity from the first note to the last and the only thing stopping it from being Mint is one very light click on the final verse.  Aside from that there is no other 'background' and the end instrumental is a case in point.  I will grade as Near Mint although 99% is better than that!
'Seamus' is so affected by sound issues but not here!  It plays with such 'clean' audio which is so impressive when you consider it is the final track.  It provides a Mint- finish to the side.  As near to a perfect side that you could wish for!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 'sonar' intro on the classic 'Echoes' plays with STUNNING clarity and that is a genuine rarity as we all know.  It is so quiet you could hear a pin drop!  The first minute or so is of course very quiet and apart from one dust tick the audio is 'crystal clear' I honestly do not think I have heard better.  Gilmour's first introduction is just as good and as Mason comes in there is still no let up in quality.  The finest opening three minutes I have ever heard - very possibly!  The opening vocal more than keeps up this standard and plays with unbelievable clarity, depth and warmth.  We are beyond the 5 minute mark now and there has literally been no intrusion on the audio!  The following instrumental section is equally as strong and I cannot overstate just how Mint the audio is!  As stated any Harry T Moss cut is collectable and listening to this it's easy to understand why!  The bass 'heavy' section that follows is so precise and clean and again the depth and resonance of sound is just out of this world!  I can often over-eulogise when I hear audio such as this on a classic album but I'm sure I can be forgiven!  The intro to the 'whale' section is 'as new' no exaggeration and it continues in the same precise way with no intrusion.  A handful of barely audible dust ticks that is all but this entire section is phenomenal in every way.  This really is audio of the highest order and I cannot find any faults, the clarity is just off the scale amazing!  This standard is maintained as the music returns with not so much as a dust tick and as it builds the sonic quality is STUNNING!  Again 'as new' is the perfect description and it of course culminates with Gilmour's 'jangly guitar' sound which is quite simply the finest example of this passage that I have ever heard.  No distortion, no intrusion at all.  The final two verses are flawless as is the next instrumental section and the quiet end section then plays like the record has never been on a turntable before!  The long final 'note' has no 'background' either and I am sure I have never graded this classic as Mint before but it infinitely deserves it here.  A couple of Mint- versions perhaps but never a Mint one - this is a STUNNING piece of music, epic in every way.
In summary this very collectable HTM pressing plays to a standard that you hardly ever find today.  S1 is stunning but as for S2 well it just doesn't get any better!  The sonic quality is out of this world which is rather apt for this other worldly epic!  The clarity, depth, warmth and power of the audio on both sides is sensational and the only intrusion is one very light click on S1.  There are so many highlights across the entire album but 'Echoes' is the stand out without question.  I sold a stunning first press recently but this just about tops it I would say - it is the most 'complete' version that you could ever wish to find.  This is a FINAL UPGRADE time warp classic and I am positive the winning bidder will be just as impressed as I am.  Not only that but this a rare album with the 'Third Ear Band - Alchemy' label on S2 and together with a superb textured cover this is a rare find indeed.  I would say the finest in existence and I do not think I have ever said that before!
The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve
The fully textured cover is in beautiful condition with no obvious wear and has retained its original shape and structure so well which can only mean it has hardly been handled down the years.  This cover is well known for being notoriously flimsy but this one is a real stunner!  The edges have no rubbing and for once the wide spine is in fantastic shape and still 100% legible.  It has only a couple of very small white crease lines and all of the corners are also super clean with no real wear plus the opening edge is pristine.  The front cover is unmarked and has just one tiny crease/rub in the bottom right corner - that is the extent of the wear!  The back cover is just as impressive with just one even small crease bottom left and the textured inside of the gatefold is still so white!  It really is in beautiful condition with none of the marking that you so often find and I can see just one very faint indentation far left and just one tiny faint blemish just to the right of Wright!  This is obviously a cover that has hardly been opened down the years, it is a stunning example.
The original EMI inner is in excellent condition with no side splits or tears, just some minimal creasing and one small spot on one side.
