CONTENTS ARE, Rare, 45-RPM Record (1969) on ROK Records, FREDLO Recording Studio "FUTURE DAYS"(2:35) / "NEW MEXICO"(2:15) Both songs written by Craig Hute BAND HISTORY: CONTENTS ARE was a 1960's 'garage style' rock band that had a regional Iowa Number #2 Hit Record with "DIRECTION OF MIND" (1967) sponsored by KSTT Radio. Their follow-up 45-RPM record, in 1969, was this rare 'single', "FUTURE DAYS" (A-Side) / "NEW MEXICO" (B-Side). In 1967, they also recorded and released a super-rare LP Album entitled "THROUGH YOU". Only 100 copies of this LP were pressed, and original copies have sold for $3,000 (as documented by Discogs, June 17, 2015). Reissues, in 2007, by Shadoks, are a lot less expensive. CONTENTS ARE had a large regional following and they played numerous live gigs through the late 1960's and into the 1970's. In the 70's they moved to Colorado and changed their name to TABERNASH. SALE ITEM INFO: This ORIGINAL 45-RPM record is Near Mint. The guys in the band were personal friends of mine. I even played in another band, called Silver Laughter, with Paul and Mick. Years ago, Craig gave me several copies of this 45 record. They have been carefully stored and are in new, near mint condition: no scratches, no spindle marks, no skips, no crackle or pop noises (except for the sounds that all vinyl records make). These are not stock photos; what you see is what you are bidding on. This is a beautifully preserved 53-year-old 45-RPM record. Please refer to the pictures and magnification that I have supplied on this 45-RPM Record. BAND PERSONNEL: Guitar, Vocals: CRAIG HUTE Drums, Vocals: PAUL STAACK Lead Guitar, Vocals: DAVE NEUMANN Bass, Vocals: LARRY SMITH (later replaced by MICK ORTON) AllMusic Review (excerpt)
by Mark Deming: "
Based in Davenport, Iowa, CONTENTS ARE were a rock band whose music typified the grey zone between the era of garage rock and the dawn of psychedelia; what they were doing was less aggressive and more melodically adventurous than what the average band of high school kids was bashing out back in the day, with some tricky guitar interplay and excellent harmonies, but they hadn't evolved into full-blown lysergic experimentation when they recorded their sole album at Davenport's Fredlo studios in 1967. (Significantly, several members had previously played in a cover band specializing in surf tunes and British Invasion hits.) There's some thoroughly enjoyable mid-'60s guitar rock to be found here. "Future Days" and "New Mexico", suggest the boys had picked up a few pointers from the first album. Given that the original album was pressed in a run of only 100 copies, this is certainly well worth a listen for fans of Midwest sounds of the '60s who are looking for new obscurities to explore." Questions are encouraged if you would like clarification on ANYTHING. This 45-RPM record will be carefully packaged and delivered in its paper sleeve and a plastic sleeve. HISTORY of My SALE ITEMS: In March of 2021, I was going through the inventory from my collectibles store that I closed in 2001. I came across many interesting collectibles that I had acquired...and long forgotten about! Almost all of the vintage items that I offer for auction are from that store…which I owned from 1996 to 2001, located at Northpark Shopping Mall, Davenport, Iowa. Since 2001, the collectibles inventory from my shop has been stored in a climate-controlled, smoke-free environment.
