One of the most intrinsic releases in the Norwegian Black Metal scene, 'In The Nightside Eclipse', was a total outlier when it was first unveiled in 1994. Many peers weren't prepared for Emperor's vision of symphonic harmony that would set them apart from the thrash and death metal influences that their genre was so firmly rooted in.
The frosted, haunting synths that underpin 'I Am The Black Wizards', or the desolate anthem, 'Cosmic Keys to My Creations & Times', showcased a desire for expansion, utilising despondent production with lush hues of frozen atmosphere. Arguably, the birth and gold standard of symphonic black metal ever since.
