This essential compilation from Africa Seven does a terrific job in highlighting the genuinely unique, dancefloor-focused music recorded by Cameroonian musician Joe Bisso following his move to the United States in the early 1970s. Often heavily percussive, the 14 tracks combine elements of Congolese rumba, Afrobeat and Afro-funk with James Brown style heavy funk and the then emerging sound of underground NYC disco. Highlights are plentiful, from the Moog-laden, Latin-tinged-disco flavours of 'Disco Madonna' and the flash-fried disco-funk extravaganza that is 'Don't Fight The Feeling', to the solo-laden heaviness of Afro-disco banger 'Midnight' and the breathy, seductive goodness of 'Your Love (Part 1)'.
