Pink Floyd : Echoes (The Best Of Pink Floyd) 4LP Box Set 2001

On offer here is another very collectable 4LP box set in superb condition.  This time from Pink Floyd it has hardly been played and the sonic quality on all 8 sides is stunning.  The box is also in superb shape, it is practically 'as new'.

Visual description

Pressed on heavyweight 180g vinyl the records are visually stunning with no marks or scratches and still have a pristine jet-black glossy sheen.  They are so clean and even under a strong light I can only locate a small number of totally insignificant hairlines something you always find.  There is no spindle wear on any of the labels and indeed there is still some vinyl 'flecking' around the spindle holes which confirms they have hardly been played if at all.

Play grading

I have played every track on S1 in full and the clarity and definition is practically 'as new'.  There is just one static tick on 'The Great Gig In The Sky' and that is the only 'background' across the entire side.  'Echoes' on S2 is just as impressive with only a handful of minor static ticks during the 'whale' section.  With regard to the remaining sides I have played some tracks in full and various extracts from others and I am pleased to say I did not find any interference.  The super quiet 'Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun' on S3 plays with stunning precision and again the clarity of sound during 'Sheep' is crystal clear - possibly better than anything I have ever heard on any Animals version!  'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' again shows just how well this 'set' has been preserved, the playback is immaculate, and the same applies to 'Wish You Were Here' I have never heard a more 'complete' version!  In fact I have played the majority of the tracks in full now and yes the audio is superb throughout and the Syd Barrett tracks are no exception to this.

The Box, Lyric & Outer Sleeves & Dark Side 'Ad'

The box itself is in lovely condition and has retained its original shape and structure perfectly.  There are only a very small number of faint 'lines' that you can only see when you hold it at a certain angle under a bright light.  As close to perfect as you will find!

The vinyls are contained within their own lyric sleeves which in turn are kept inside an outer sleeve and all aspects are in perfect condition with no wear of any kind.  The vinyls are actually inside anti-static Nagaoka sleeves which has clearly helped them retain their original sonic quality.  Also included is an LP sized 'Dark Side' 30th anniversary advertisement which is near perfect with just one minor corner crease.

Play tested on my Rega P2 Turntable / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers

The records have been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine

I grade according to "Record Collector" guidelines.
