BAD SEEDS
This Corpus Christi outfit was discovered by Carl Becker, who ran the J-Beck / Cee-Be record label, playing at the Surf Club. They had formed in 1964 - Taylor had previously fronted an outfit called The Four Winds and Prince and Donaho had played together in The Titans. For a while they were the Corpus Christi act. Their first 45, a punkish Stones-inspired number, attracted some local interest. They followed it up with a double-sided instrumental and the 'A' side of their third and final effort was a version of the 13th Floor Elevators' Tried To Hide which had not been released at the time. They also appeared as the back-up band on the 'B' side of the 1966 45 Down The Road I Go by Tony Joe and The Mojos. Rod Prince later played in the New Seeds and Bubble Puppy. Eva/Collectables' posthumous release features their three 45s, two other J-Beck 45s Mike Taylor recorded under the name Michael after The Bad Seeds split and two previously unreleased cuts: Checkerboard and Arkansas...(Fuzz Acid & Flowers)
