Slave was an American Ohio-based funk band popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Trumpeter and multi-instrumentalist Steve Washington, born in New Jersey, attended East Orange High School, and was one of the first users of the "electric trumpet". He and Trombonist Floyd Miller formed the group in Dayton, Ohio in 1975
Slave is the self-titled debut studio album by the American R&B/funk band Slave. It was released in 1977 through Cotillion Records. Recording sessions took place at Century Sound Studios in Sayreville, New Jersey. Production was handled by Jeff Dixon. The album peaked at number 22 on the Billboard 200 and number six on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. It was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America on June 14, 1977. Its lead single, "Slide", made it to number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100, topped the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and also reached number 58 in Canadian Singles Chart.
Just A Touch Of Love is their fourth album, released in 1979. It was the band's second album with the vocals of Steve Arrington and Starlena Young. Vocalist Curt Jones joined the band at this time. The album reached number eleven on Billboard's Top Soul Albums chart in 1980. The title track was released as a single, reaching the top ten on the Soul Singles chart
Stone Jam is their fifth album. It was released in 1980 on Cotillion Records and reissued in 1997 on Rhino Records. It was produced by Jimmy Douglass and Steve Washington. The album was listed on the Billboard 200, Billboard's 1981 Year-End Chart and was certified Gold by the RIAA. It contains the hit singles "Sizzlin' Hot", "Feel My Love", and "Watching You".
Show Time is their sixth album, released in 1981. Show Time was the last album that singer/drummer Steve Arrington recorded with the band. The album reached number seven on the Top Soul Albums charts. The lead single, "Snap Shot", reached number six on the Soul Singles charts.

Aurra started off in 1979 as an offshoot of the funk band Slave. Steve Washington first conceptualized the project, which also initially featured fellow former Slave members Curt Jones, Starleana Young, and Thomas Lockett. By the time they recorded their first LP, the lineup also included Charles Carter and Buddy Hankerson. Aurra initially signed with Dream Records, and then Salsoul Records. Composer/keyboardist Philip Field, known for his work as a member of Mtume, subsequently joined the lineup. During the early 1980s, the group found success with hits such as "Are You Single" (number 16 on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart), "Checkin' You Out", and "Make Up Your Mind", the last of which became the group's biggest US hit under the Aurra moniker - reaching number six on the R&B chart and number 71 on the pop chart
