It can be a heartening experience to witness a band excelling themselves with a record whose widescreen expanses and melodic power are ready to take on the world without compromising their sound and approach - such is the case with this fifth album by Atlanta's Manchester Orchestra, which strives beyond the grunge-ridden angst of their last album - 2014's 'Cope' - to strike a strident and openly emotional tone that sets up its camp between and beyond Band Of Horses-style Americana, Mew-esque expeimentation and brittle alt-rock - grandiose without being overblown, mature without sounding staid. these anthems are as deft and affecting testimony to a band firmly finding its stride.
