Zior : Zior 1Y1 / 2Y1 1st Press 1971 Nepentha Label

This relatively rare and very collectable first pressing from Zior plays with STUNNING audio throughout with no interference and that is no exaggeration.  I have played the album in full and the only 'background' is two light ticks on S2 but in my opinion that does not qualify as interference!  The clarity, depth, power and resonance of the audio is breath-taking anbd you could not wish to find a more 'complete' version.  The vinyl does have some light hairlines but they have zero impact on the sonic quality and this is easily a FINAL UPGRADE time-warp classic.  It was not pressed in vast numbers of course and the rarity of this classic truly does lie in the quality of the audio here, the playback is incredible!

The gatefold is in superb condition with only minor wear on a couple of corners and surely must be one of the most impressive around today.  The inner sleeve remains in excellent condition also.

As you can see from the matrix info this is the earliest known first pressing.  It doesn't get much earlier than 111 / 111!

Visual description
The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a very impressive glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  There are a number of very fine faint hairlines that you can only see under a strong light but as is often the case with robust early 70s vinyl they have no affect on the audio.  There is also one tiny heat 'bump' on S1 and two on S2 but again they have no impact on the sound.  The run out grooves are very clean and the iconic Nepentha labels are unmarked apart from a little spindle wear, just a bit more on S1.  A fine example overall of this superb album.
Play grading
The intro on 'I Really Do' plays with exceptional clarity and power and the opening vocal is just as strong.  It continues in the same precise way through every vocal and instrumental section and I cannot fault the audio.  Just one dust tick on the fade out that is all!  Already you know you are listening to an album which has retained its original sonic quality - the clarity and definition of the audio is of the highest standard and this is easily a Mint start to this rare classic album.
With complete silence in the dead wax the acoustic intro on 'Za Za Za Zilda' plays beautifully with no intrusion and the first vocal is on a par with that with just one barely audible dust tick!  Again clarity is STUNNING!  From then on it plays with impeccable quality and the quieter piano section near the end is a prime example of that - no 'background' at all not even a dust tick.  The final vocal is faultless as is the fade out and Mint is again 100% deserved.
'Love's Desire' provides more evidence of a vinyl that has hardly been played down the years and so well preserved also.  From start to finish there are no ticks, clicks, jumps, pops or static - each note is just so clean and precise.  Yet another Mint track.  Wow!
The organ intro on 'New Land' plays with literally no intrusion, the clarity is amazing.  The opening vocal keeps up this standard and it progresses in the same way with no interference.  For fear of sounding repetitive it is the overall clarity of sound that really stands out - it's like you've been transported back to 1971!  Every facet of the recording is so strong and the mid vocal section followed by the instrumental can only be described 'as new'.  The depth and resonance of sound is just unbelievable!  The final vocal section again plays with sublime quality and the fade out does not even have a single dust tick.  Sometimes I may consider if a track should be Mint or Mint- or even Near Mint but this is unequivocally Mint in every sense of the word, it did not take me long to decide!
'Now I'm Sad' once again plays with exceptional audio from the first note to the last with nothing to detract from the 'listen'.  If there is any inner groove distortion it is so minimal and hardly worth a mention.  A 'busy' track and yet each note can easily be heard and again there are no ticks, clicks etc.  The up-tempo ending is superb and I'm going to grade this as Mint- although I'm really not sure if the minus is required.
If anything the intro on 'Give Me Love' plays with even greater depth and power than the previous track - honestly the sonic quality is phenomenal!  The opening vocal is equal to that and it continues to play with outstanding quality for the remainder.  There is NO distortion and once more there are no negatives.  A powerful final track and yet the sonic quality is not affected in any way and again I have no hesitation in grading this as Mint and  wow what a side of music!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The intro on 'Quabala' is as close to perfect as could be.  Actually you could say perfect because only right at the end is there one light tick prior to the next section.  The rest of this instrumental plays with sublime quality with just one very light tick near the end.  Near Mint is easily deserved here.
'Oh Mariya' plays with immaculate precision throughout the intro - the sonic quality here is just out of this world - and the opening vocal is of the same high end standard.  The more I get into the track the more impressed I am!  I cannot adequately put into words just how strong and deep the audio is.  I guess only 'as new' will do and to the final note it plays with pristine audio.  The fade out has not one dust tick which gives a further indication of the clarity on offer here.  Mint
'Your Life Will Burn' then plays with imperious quality and of course...no interference.  The power of the audio again stands out and there is no distortion on the top end.  The vocals are so 'clean' and the mid instrumental is fantastic!  The final vocal is just as strong and again there is only one grade for this track.  Mint
The acoustic intro on 'I was Fooling' has zero 'background' and this quieter number continues to plays with a clarity that belies the age of the album.  Once again I cannot overstate just how STUNNING the audio is - there is just no interference of any kind, not even a dust tick which I do not classify as interference!  This is MINT - a truly spectacular version!
The powerful and deep intro on 'Before My Eyes Go Blind' is faultless and from then on it plays with sublime quality and no interference.  Apart from the clarity the real stand out is the depth of the audio and that is helped in no small measure by the strong bass sound.  It just could not play with any greater precision and Mint is 100% deserved.
'Rolling Thunder' ends this stunning album with stunning audio!  From the intro and through every vocal and instrumental section the audio is 'crystal clear' with no intrusion whatsoever.  There is no 'muddiness' to the sound and it plays like it has never seen a turntable before.  Impressive for any final track which are so often affected by distortion but that is not the case here and the long fade out plays to perfection with...not one dust tick.  A superb Mint conclusion to this incredible album.
In summary this STUNNING first pressing plays to a standard you so rarely find today, I think I can safely say that.  The depth and power of the audio is just on another level and with only a couple of mega light ticks on 'Quabala' the clarity is phenomenal.  This is obviously a FINAL UPGRADE time-warp classic and I would not be surprised if it was the finest one in existence!  Ok a big statement to make but having played every track in full and not over-grading in any way (not in my interests!) the sonic quality is basically 'as new' in every sense.  Like I say the clarity is just so impressive and the fade outs are a prime example of that plus there is silence in the dead wax between all of the tracks.  This is exactly why we listen to vinyl - you do not find audio definition such as this via any other medium.  What an album!
The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve

The Keef cover is in superb condition with hardly any shelf wear which is impressive when you consider it isn't laminated.  It still holds its original shape and structure which can only mean it has not been handled very much down the years.  The edges are in perfect condition and the wide spine is also in superb order with only minimal rubbing on the top corner.  The 'right' hand corners have only a little wear and the top left corner of the back cover just a minor crease/rub - this corner wear albeit minimal is the only real wear on this cover!  The opening edge has only minor handling wear and the front cover is incredibly clean without any marking, just that minimal corner wear as stated.  The back cover is in lovely condition also with just the one corner crease as previously mentioned and the inside of the gatefold is super clean with just one very small white scuff on the left and a tiny mark on the right panel.  A stunning example of this iconic cover.

The plain white poly-lined inner sleeve is in great shape with no side splits, barely any marking and just a little creasing.
