This San Jose high school/student band reached the U.S. Top Ten with the title track of their only album, now a collector's item. Their album also made No 122 in the U.S. Album Charts, and the group toured the U.S. performing with the Hollies, Beach Boys, Rascals, Byrds, Dave Clark Five, Sony and Cher, The Doors, Them, and Peter and Gordon to name but a few. Aside from the classic Psychotic Reaction, their album was full of driving rock songs, of which Double Decker Bus was the next best.

If it were not for Lester Bangs' hilarious and fanciful essay "Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung," which sent generations of impressionable young hipsters-in-training to their local used-record stores in search of Double Shot DSS-5001, the world would not much recall Count Five's Psychotic Reaction; the average casual garage rock fan would be no more likely to search for this album than an album by Nuggets staples like the Remains...(AllMusic)
