Beatles Yesterday and Today, Third State, Butcher Cover, Vinyl.
Got this from a neighbor 30 years ago. But didn’t get any backstory. I believe it to be one of the original U.S. pressings of the Beatles album ‘Yesterday and Today’ with the originally printed ‘Butcher’ cover art, that had been covered over with a slick of the alternative ‘Trunk’ cover art. And then, making it the 3rd State, the 2nd cover was peeled off revealing the original ‘Butcher’ cover art. Whoever peeled the cover didn’t do a stellar job, and the cover is in less than pristine condition with remnants of the 'Trunk' cover and areas of the "Butcher' cover pulled up. Front and back covers are separating in areas around the spine. The paper the ‘Butcher’ cover was printed on has a bumpy texture when I run a finger over the surface.
I placed the album over a Rubber Soul album from the same period and as expected it seems to have been trimmed on the side of the opening and measures 3/16 of an inch less wide.
The vinyl is in excellent condition with few signs of wear. Looks to be the appropriate original inner sleeve. While the label on the vinyl record has ‘stereo’ printed on it, the cover indicates ‘mono’ . As I didn’t purchase this new I could only speculate on why this anomaly.
I believe this to be a genuine artifact of Beatles History. I’ve presented the details to the best of my ability and truthfully so a buyer can make an informed decision as to what this might be worth. But as I acquired this used I can’t make any guarantees.
