Marvin Gaye - What's Going On, Tamla Motown STML11190, ORIGINAL UK LP 1971 1ST PRESS * TEXTURED SLEEVE * LYRIC INSERT Matrix Information (A Side: Stamped) : STML 11190 A-2 | (B Side: Stamped) : STML 11190 B-2 Masterpiece - the melodies are sublime, the execution of said melodies is an exercise in vocal perfection. The arrangements are little droplets of joy. The whole damn groove is aural sex. If you have a heart, it will feel. If you have hips, they will move. And if your ears have lips, they will smile.. The production of this album is nothing short of astonishing. The meticulous layering of all the instruments creates a soundscape that is alive, moving. Most impressive is the bassplay. From the famed Funk Brothers, James Jamerson plays the first side and Bob Babbit the second. The lines are very well done; they do a great job of acting as an anchor for all the components of the sound Marvin was attempting. The result is the perfect foil for Marvin's angelic vocals.
