For the latest missive on his admirable - and impossible to pigeonhole- DRONE imprint, Richard Fearless has turned to rising star Kalli, a Lewes-based Manchester native best known for co-running the GODDEZZ label and parties. The two tracks on show are fantastic, if hard to accurately describe. A-side 'Soft Play', for example, is built around formidably fast, distorted, steel-heavy electro breakbeats (think Autechre's 'Basscadet' and you're close) and rumbling bass, but also includes excitable, hardcore style rave riffs, intergalactic-sounding chords and glassy-eyed musical flourishes. Flipside 'Gems Per Capita', meanwhile, is a mutant breakbeat/electro fusion blessed with acidic lead lines, madcap motifs and the deepest, weightiest sub-bass around. Breathlessly brilliant stuff all told.
