Bernard Purdie's Purdie Good! album is a cult classic of the funk world. Perdie is one of the most recorded rummers of his era and played on countless great records by everyone from Aretha Franklin to Steely Dan. His famous shuffling style also gave rise to a few solo sessions, one of which was this one. It was recorded by legendary engineer and audio obsessive Rudy Van Gelder in 1971 at his famous studio and mixes sup some of his own stylish originals next to his signature covers of the hits of the day. The take on James Brown's 'Cold Sweat' is a real standout. This reissue was cut from the original analog tapes by Kevin Gray.
