Tomoyoshi Date has been an active member of the Japanese underground drone scene for over a decade, and his latest release 438Hz As It Is As You Are certainly hammers home his unique approach to composition and sound design, with its input media ranging from an oddly-tuned upright piano to audiophilic recordings of a needle caressing a vinyl record - 'the sound constantly changes depending on the air, temperature and humidity around the needle'. With this in mind, this LP is largely an exercise in exploring the theme of sensitivity and balance, with electroacoustic 'beauties such as '? Netsu' and '? Tsuchi' amountig to rolling, effected pianoscapes for the end of time.
