Renowned Swedish progressive death metal visionaries, Opeth, had already commenced writing and recording their second full-length by the time their acclaimed debut album Orchid crept over the metallic landscape in 1995. Morningrise would materialise just over a year later and end up recharting the band's trajectory over the coming decades. The final endeavour to feature drummer Anders Nordin and bassist Johan De Farfalla; the remarkable sophomore effort signaled an enveloping embrace of more melodic and progressive soundscapes which would become a vital component of their creative output.
