In the Heat of the Night is the debut studio album by American singer Pat Benatar, released on August 27, 1979, by Chrysalis Records. The album debuted on the Billboard 200 for the week ending October 20, 1979, peaking at No. 12 in March 1980, almost six months after its release. The album includes "Heartbreaker", her breakthrough single in the United States (where it reached the top 25), Canada and New Zealand (it reached the top 20 in both those countries). "Heartbreaker" was the third single released from the album, as neither the first single, Benatar's version of "I Need a Lover", or the second single, her rendition of "If You Think You Know How to Love Me", charted in the US, Canada, Australia or New Zealand.
Crimes of Passion isher second studio album, released on August 5, 1980, by Chrysalis Records. It is Benatar's first album to feature Myron Grombacher on drums, beginning a long tenure in her band that would last into the late 1990s. The album debuted on the US Billboard 200 for the week ending August 23, 1980, and held at number two for five weeks in January 1981, behind John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Double Fantasy. Crimes of Passion contains the singles "Hit Me with Your Best Shot", which became Benatar's first top-10 entry in the US, and is considered to be her best-known song, and "Treat Me Right", a top-20 entry in the US
Precious Time is her third studio album, released on July 6, 1981, through the Chrysalis label. The album peaked at number one on the United States' Billboard 200, her only album to do so in any country, and was certified as Double Platinum in sales in the US. Its lead single was the mid-tempo "Fire and Ice", which was a Top 20 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Precious Time's second single, the rapid guitar-driven "Promises in the Dark", one of the few Benatar singles written by her and husband Neil Giraldo,  while reaching number 38 on the US Billboard Hot 100 
Get Nervous is her fourth studio album, released in October 1982. It debuted on the Billboard 200 album chart the week ending November 20 and peaked at No. 4, staying on the charts for 46 weeks. Three songs from the album were released as singles: "Shadows of the Night", "Little Too Late", and "Looking for a Stranger" all reached the US Top 40

Tropico is her fifth studio album, released on November 1, 1984, by Chrysalis Records. It is the first album to feature one-time John Waite bassist Donnie Nossov, who replaced Roger Capps in Benatar's band. It peaked at No. 14 on the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart and produced the Grammy-nominated Top Five Pop hit "We Belong". Other well-known songs from the album include "Painted Desert", "Outlaw Blues" and "Ooh Ooh Song" (also a Top 40 hit).
