Pennsylvania extreme metal grindcore auteurs Full Of Hell and shoegaze entity Nothing have operated within the same spheres for many a moon. Originally sharing bills before their sonic trajectories took them down differing paths, When No Birds Sang seems like a collaborative labour of love that was always a matter of when, and not if. From their prior creative endeavours with the likes of doom-sludge trio Primitive Man and caustic post-rock collective The Body, it's no secret that the members of Full Of Hell are no strangers to the collaborative process, but never before have they married their cacophonous anguish to such a disparate style as the melancholic dreamgazing of Nothing. Pulling the "wall of sound" approach pioneered by the likes of My Bloody Valentine and Swans down through cavernous rungs of blackened grind and desolate noise, this is musical catharsis and exorcism of a serene, poignant and utterly devastating eccentricity.
