Punk/Hardcore
Eschewing the prevalent rock and roll, country and blues elements of their three previous full-lengths, Social Distortion mastermind Mike Ness pined for a return to his band's rawer hardcore punk origins on their fifth LP White Light, White Heat, White Trash. Reinstating the energetic grit of their debut Mommy's Little Monster, and lyrically sobering in its brutal depictions of alcohol and drug abuse as well as looming feelings of regret, there was a notable dichotomy upon release between fans who welcomed the more abrasive U-turn and those who had been drawn to the country/blues punk of their latter-day output. Love & Death: The 1994 Demos is a behind the scenes glance into Ness' creative process featuring outtakes, early versions of seminal cuts such as 'Don't Drag Me Down' and 'Crown Of Thorns', and unearthed B-sides for the truly devout.
