Blue Magic - Thirteen Blue Magic Lane, Atlantic K50181 INSERT

The third Blue Magic LP continues to subtly refine and expand the group's approach. While their gossamer harmonies remain squarely at the forefront, 13 Blue Magic Lane features more pronounced club grooves than on their previous records. This album is a masterclass in smooth balladry and uptempo proto-disco with lush arrangements and tight harmonies. "The Loneliest House on the Block", "Chasing Rainbows", and "What's Come Over Me" (a remake of the track from their first record, but this time as a duet) are some of the most beautiful songs to come out of Sigma Sound Studios, while "I Like You" and "We're on the Right Track" showcase the band's mastery of more upbeat tunes. The latter track, in particular, is one of the best examples of the mid-70's sound that was somewhere between classic Philly soul and disco. If you like The Delfonics or The O'Jays and you don't have this album, you're seriously missing out.

Vinyl: VG+. Signs of use but nothing that really compromises the record visually or audibly. The finish is shiny with light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience. Labels are superb, clean and bright without marks. Spindle shows no sign of wear. And no warps.
