A usual suspect of the hip-hop re-edits scene, Wugazi was the clever novelty project of Andy Lund (Field Guide, The Millionth Word) and Kyle Smith (Doomtree), two Minneapolis producers whose lightbulb ingenuity might be said to have rivalled Edison or Pythagoras when they resolved to produce Wugazi - a mashup album consisting of instrumentals by straight-edge punk band Fugazi and acapellas of the samurai-obsessed Wu-Tang Clan. A further thirteen "chambers" are added to the Clan's original 36 - each of them sonically presenting as hellrisen schisms leading to the incipient world that is Fugazi's 13 Songs. The fusion is effective and impressive, especially given Fugazi's difficult-to-follow-for-the-average-music-enjoyer rhythms, the tonality of which lend the Clan members a whole new angsty subtext, making them sound like different vocalists and storytellers altogether.
