Nirvana : The Story Of Simon Simopath A / B 1st Stereo Press 1967 - Island Pink Bullseye Label

This very collectable first pressing plays with stunning audio across both sides.  There is just one light click on S1 and that is the only obvious intrusion.  A handful of minor statics and a couple of minor crackles the only other background really and as always I have played every track in full.  I cannot overstate just how well this classic album plays and the clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is easily up there with the best I have heard.  It's not far off a final upgrade if I'm honest which is so impressive when you consider it is very near 57 years old!  Yes there are some faint hairlines but they have no impact on the audio and it truly is a STUNNING listen.  It has clearly not been played very much.

The laminated cover is in excellent condition with only a little shelf wear and the original inner is in excellent order also.

This was only sold in limited quantities on first release and there certainly cannot be many that play with a sonic quality as 'high end' as this.  It may have been regarded as a bit 'twee' at the time but in retrospect it has earned a lot of praise.  There is some great psychedelic rock/pop here with some great melodies and like I say the audio is superb!

ILPS + 9059 + A // ILPS + 9059 + B

The audio on S1 is Mint(-) (T2 Ex+ / T5 Near Mint)

The audio on S2 is Mint(-) (T4 Near Mint)

The gatefold is Ex-

The textured pink 'bullseye' labels are Near Mint

The original inner sleeve is Ex+
Visual description
The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a strong glossy sheen with no obvious marks or scratches.  Under a bright light you can see a number of faint hairlines but they are purely superficial as they have no affect on the superb audio.  Under 'normal' lighting the vinyl is visually stunning and there is nothing that stands out, it has been very well looked after.  The textured pink bullseye Island labels are in superb shape with no marking and very little spindle wear.
Play grading
The intro on 'Wings Of Love' plays so clearly with only a couple of barely audible dust ticks and the opening vocal is so clean and precise also.  The clarity of sound is stunning and it continues to play with great definition and warmth.  The first chorus is a case in point - incredible sonic quality with no static on the top end.  I cannot fault this version, there are no ticks, clicks, pops or static and the more up-tempo end vocal is superb!  From start to finish there is no intrusion and it provides a sublime Mint start to the album.
'Lonely Boy' has a couple of static sounds on the intro and the first verse is perfect.  The second does have one light click on the first line but that is only interference across the entire track.  The mid 'instrumental' is faultless and the remainder is so close to that with only a handful of mega quiet statics, you really don't notice them they are totally non-intrusive.  I'm not sure why I even mention them!  Once again the depth and warmth of the audio is so impressive and the fade out has no background either, that is a measure of the clarity on offer here.  I will grade as Ex+ because of that one click but it's fair to say 99% is better than that!
'We Can Help You' again shows how well this vinyl has been cared for and plays with stunning quality from the get go.  The intro is flawless and the first verse can also be described 'as new'.  This standard is kept up through every vocal section - I cannot emphasise enough how well it plays it truly is a superb version and Mint is deserved.
'Satellite Jockey' once again plays with sensational audio with no sign of any interference.  The vocals are so clean and the accompanying music could not play with any greater clarity.  Even the 'supersonic test' at the end plays perfectly!  Another great melody and another Mint track.
There are a couple of ticks in the dead wax but then the intro on 'In The Courtyard Of Stars' plays perfectly.  It progresses in the same precise way and I only noticed a couple of minor background statics and a couple of quick consecutive crackles on the fade out.  Near Mint is certainly deserved here.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The intro on 'You Are Just the One' plays with incredible sonic quality!  Admittedly I should not go overboard about a short intro but if you win this listen to it carefully you will understand what I mean!  The power and depth of the audio is amazing!  Campbell-Lyons' opening vocal is equal to that and the first chorus is phenomenal also.  It continues to play with such deep, rich and clear audio - there is literally nothing to detract from the overall 'sound' not even a dust tick.  This is audio of the highest calibre - crystal clear audio throughout including the fade out.  It is MINT in every way.

The gentle intro on 'Pentecost Hotel' plays beautifully with only a couple of minor statics and the opening verse has no background at all.  The chorus is 'as new' and this clarity is very much in evidence as it continues.  The chorus sections are quite powerful and yet there is zero distortion and again I cannot put into words just how clear the audio is.  Each and every vocal and instrumental section play with sublime quality.  Let's say Mint- but even the minus may be a little harsh.

The piano intro intro on 'I Never Had A Love This Before' plays with exceptional quality with only a couple of minor background statics and the opening vocal is on a par with that.  From then on it plays beautifully with no interference.  One of the quieter tracks on the album you have to admire the clarity of sound here, the playback is stunning.  A stripped down track you could say without that Spector-esque 'wall of sound' it plays with remarkable clarity from start to finish with no interference.  I think Mint- is fair only because of a couple of non-intrusive statics.  What a version!

A little static in the dead wax and then the intro on 'Take This Hand' plays to perfection.  The first verse is close to perfect with just one very brief crackle sound and from then on it plays with impeccable precision - the kind of clarity we have come to expect now!  In fact the only background are a couple of light statics on the fade out.  I will grade this one as Near Mint but again that may be a little too critical :-)

There are four ticks in the dead wax but there is no such issue with the intro on '1999' which plays 'as new' without any background.  This 'vaudeville' type number then plays with outstanding audio from then on with not so much as a dust tick.  A perfect Mint finish to this classic album and again the fade out has no background.

In summary this first stereo pressing plays with such quality I cannot really fault it.  With only one light click on S1 you could arguably say there is no other intrusion.  Ok a couple of minor crackle and a handful of minor statics but they are not intrusive in any way.  It truly is a superb album and it's hard to believe it is fast approaching 57 years old!  It was only pressed in limited numbers and surely there cannot be many around today that play with a clarity as impressive as this one.  A STUNNING album in so many ways and definitely one for the avid collector.

The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve

The laminated gatefold is quite thin of course and yet has remained in excellent condition overall.  The edges have only very minimal rubbing and the very thin spine has just a little wear in the centre and light wear on the corners.  The right hand corners are pretty clean with only minimal wear.  The front cover is in lovely condition with only a couple of laminate creases close to the right edge and a couple more in the top right corner.  The back cover is very clean with only a minor crease in the top and bottom left corners.  Minor rubbing around the edges also just to be 'complete' with my description.  The inside of the gatefold is in great shape with no marking and only light rubbing on the inner spine and a small split at the top as is common.  A very strong example overall.

The plain white die-cut inner is in excellent condition with barely any marking and only light creasing.

Postage & Packaging

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
