FIRST PRESS NOTES...

This is a genuine UK first press, it has the 1Y1 / 2Y1 matrix and of course the Big Bear management credit on the inside cover.  It has a large swirl on the S2 label and VERTIGO is ABOVE the spindle hole.  The Roger Bain production credit is written one line on the S2 label (Rodger on the cover) and there is of course no break between 'Hand Of Doom' and 'Rat Salad' so it looks as if there are just three tracks on S2.

History...

Paranoid is the second studio album by English heavy metal band Black Sabbath, released in September 1970 through Vertigo Records in England and Warner Bros. Records in the US. The album contains several of the band's signature songs, including "Iron Man", "War Pigs" and the title track, which was the band's only Top 20 hit, reaching number 4 in the UK charts.

In a 2017 publication by Rolling Stone magazine, Paranoid was ranked number one on its list of the "100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time". The album is often cited as a key influence for the development of the heavy metal music genre as well as one of the earliest heavy metal albums. Paranoid was the band's only album to top the UK Albums Chart until the release of 13 in 2013.

FIRST PRESS MATRIX NUMBERS...

Side A = 6360011  1Y//1🔽420

Side B = 6360011 2Y//1🔽420

The vinyl is a true first press, confirmed by the positioning and size of the large Vertigo swirl and  Roger Bain credits! It has a lovely glossy sheen in appearance and sits flat to the surface. The labels are beautiful, with NO paper removal or penmanship etc and have fabulous spindle holes - EXCELLENT. There are a few insignificant non feelable surface lines and two small feelable.

The outer gatefold cover is in lovely condition. It shows the VERY RARE & SAUGHT AFTER 'BIG Bear" management credits!!!! There is general age related wear/discolouration to the edges, corners and spine and other minor imperfections as to be expected for an item of this age.

Completing this first press set is the often missing Vertigo Swirl protective inner in great condition! No splits or tears, only age related discolouration and small perforations to the viewing windows.

OVERALL AN INCREDIBLY RARE FIND - A MUST HAVE TO ADD TO YOUR MUSICAL COLLECTION!!
