T. Rex : Electric Warrior A-2U / B3 w/ Poster 1971 Fly Records

This album plays with superb audio on both sides with barely any intrusion.  There are just three light ticks on the 'Girl' intro on S2 and a small number of very quiet statics which clearly are not intrusive.  The clarity is stunning and the depth and warmth of the audio is just on another level, I do not think I have ever heard better.  The vinyl is visually so impressive which in part explains why the sonic quality is so strong.  This is clearly a record that has not been played very much.

The cover has only a little wear and this is mainly on the bottom edge which has some rubbing.  The collectable original poster looks like it has never been opened and is in perfect Mint condition!  The original inner has just one small side split and remains very clean.

Is this a second pressing or a first press variation?  I would like to think the latter - it has the first press A-2U matrix on S1 with the Porky etching but S2 has a B3 matrix and no Pecko Duck etching.  T3 on the S1 label has the Lupus Music credit.

Visual description

The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has a superb sheen with no obvious marks or scratches.  Under a bright light I can only find some very minor specks and a small area of faint mottling on the first track on S2.  There are only a handful of very faint insignificant hairlines and they are not easy to find!  The run out grooves are so clean and the labels have only minimal spindle wear, a little on S1 and hardly anything on S2.

Play grading

'Mambo Sun' plays with exceptional clarity and depth with zero intrusion on the audio.  It really is the depth of the audio that stands out here, it is so strong and deep and it sounds fantastic!  I cannot overstate just how well this track plays and with not even a single dust tick and a perfect fade out it provides a stunning Mint start to the album.

The acoustic / opening vocal section on 'Cosmic Dancer' plays perfectly and it continues in the same precise way with no interference.  Once again the clarity and warmth of the audio is absolutely STUNNING and I only noticed a couple of barely audible dust ticks.  Such a well produced album and Mint is again a fair assessment of the audio.

The intro on 'Jeepster' is flawless and Bolan's first verse and chorus are of the same high end standard.  From then on it plays with a sonic quality that is out of this world.  Another classic and another superb Mint track.  The audio is so clean and precise and 'as new' sums it up perfectly.

'Monolith' plays with great precision from start to finish with no interference.  The intro is perfect and the two verses also play with impeccable quality.  I did hear one very faint tick on the second so I will grade as Mint- accordingly.

The quiet intro on 'Lean Woman Blues' has no background and the first verse is equal to that.  It continues to play with such quality and there is nothing getting in the way of the clean, deep sound.  The mid instrumental is stunning and the final vocal / instrumental have no intrusion either.  A superb Mint version to end the side with.

The classic intro on 'Get It On' plays rich and deep and with no background.  The opening vocal is just as good as is the first chorus.  The next verse has a couple of minor statics at the beginning but they are not intrusive in any way.  From then on it plays so well with not so much as a dust tick.  Again the depth and warmth of the audio is superb and I have no hesitation in grading this classic as Mint-

The spoken / acoustic intro on 'Planet Queen' plays to perfection and the first verse is equal to that.  The second has a minor tick but so quiet you could easily miss it.  The chorus is 'as new' and this level is kept up as it progresses.  Stunning clarity and definition and Mint- is deserved.  Not sure the minus is necessary really!

'Girl' has three light ticks on the intro but then plays so clearly with no other intrusion.  I will say Ex- for the intro but is Mint from then onwards.

'The Motivator' plays with outstanding clarity and depth from start to finish and 'Life's A Gas' is as impressive with no intrusion at all.  Once again you can only admire at how well the previous owner looked after his records.  They have lost none of their original sonic quality - the clarity of sound is amazing!  Mint

The intro on the final track 'Rip-Off' is perfect and the opening vocal is just as strong.  From then on it plays with genuine power and again you cannot fault the power and depth of the audio.  There is no interference, no inner groove distortion and the instrumental end section just could not play any better.  Mint is 100% deserved.

In summary this very early pressing (first press variation?) plays with incredible quality and the only intrusion is the first three seconds on the 'Girl' intro.  Even then it isn't loud!  As for the rest of album - a handful of mega quiet statics that describes it well.  So quiet and totally non-intrusive - this is an album that has only been lightly played and that is reflected in the stunning audio quality.

The Cover, Poster & Inner Sleeve

The only real issue with the cover is some rubbing on the bottom edge, the top edge has only minimal wear.  The spine remains 100% legible with only light wear on the corners - only the bottom right corner has a little more wear and the opening edge has very little handling wear.  The front cover is very clean with only some minor abrasions that you can only see when you hold it at a certain angle and a few minor specks.  The back cover is in great condition with only some light wear on the corners.  A strong example overall.

The original large poster is in fantastic condition and is 'as new' basically.  There are no tears and no marking on either side.  The inner sleeve is in excellent shape with just one small side split and minimal age related fading around the edges.  There is hardly any creasing.

Play tested on my Rega P2 with AT-VM95EN Cart / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
