Premiering on 29th October 2023 at Playwrights Horizons, one of New York City's acclaimed off-Broadway theatres, and a non-profit at that, Stereophonic tells the story of a fictional rock band on the cusp of superstardom, but struggling with the recording of their new album. Set in 1976-77, the show received universal acclaim, making Will Butler, of Arcade Fire and sexual misconduct fame, as a talented theatre scribe. One of the main parts of Stereophonic that really turned heads is the soundtrack, reassuringly, which critics have compared to the real life Fleetwood Mac album, Rumours, arguably one of the most famous soft rock-pop records of all time. That's certainly a bold statement to make, but one what also rings quite true once you're knee-deep in the score, which sounds and feels nothing short of 100% authentic.
