ORIGINAL 1976 1st PRESS UK VINYL LP The album has aged like fine wine and contains the richest and most absorbing melodies of Gaye's career, which is really saying something. Literally every song is standout, with Gaye's entrancing vocals brightening up each and every one of them and instilling inside the listener a sense of peace, enlightenment and wonder, like the best soul albums should. I Want You begins with its title track, which hooks you in with an instrumental intro. Scattered around is a rich guitar, a string section, and Marvin. And then, you find yourself in the party. You see the world of the album through the voice of Gaye, in a way where one can imagine a love at first sight across a vibrant dance floor. The love on the album isn't perfect. It's not "right" or "sweet". It's beautiful, but not in a traditional way. Like on Let's Get It On, the love is sexual, anticipating what happens "After the Dance". But that's not the only dimension the album presents. It's colorful, reserved, and finds the character in a variety of moods and settings- in fact, the sequencing implies two different parties- without ever abandoning the main theme: "I Want You". There's so much to adore about this tracklist. The short burst of perfection on "I Wanna Be Where You Are" is absolutely breathtaking. There's not a single dud, and every single song could end up being my favorite.

Vinyl: VG+. Stunning showing only slight tiny signs of use. The finish is shiny with some light marks where the vinyl has been in and out of the inner sleeve a few times. Labels have minor defect which aren’t overwhelming. Spindle shows no sign of wear. And no warps.
