I suspect we have all seen/heard Stan Tracey live over the years. For me it was initially during his time at the Scott Club and then later during some of his provincial tours. His death on 6th December last - 3 weeks short of his 87th birthday - brought many tributes including Alyn Shipton's recent Jazz Record Requests programme in which all the tracks were requests for Stan. There was a request from his early 1959  'Little Klunk' album and also from what is perhaps his best known recording from 1965 'Under Milk Wood'. I have owned a copy of both these albums since they were originally released, and I am now listing them for auction here.

Stan recorded his Jazz Suite 'Under Milk Wood' three times to my knowledge. Originally in 1965, then in 1976 with Donald Houston narrating (at the Wigmore Hall) and then even later there was a live recording with Philip Madoc narrating. You want the one I am listing here - the original recording with the wonderful Bobby Wellins on tenor, Jeff Clyne on bass and Jack Dougan on drums. I have seen somebody refer to this recording as 'the definitive British jazz recording of all time' - that's how good it is. This LP is 48 years old and my new ultra sensitive Rega Planar turntable detects some surface noise on side 1 but very little on side 2. The vinyl looks very clean and shiny. The cover, both front and back, is just about near mint. Sorry I have been unable to take a decent picture of the label. These Columbia labels are basically black and my cheap camera can't cope with that. However, if a pic of the label is important to you please ask and I shall do my best.

Please ask me any questions sooner rather than later. Also, should you win the bids for both of these LPs I can post them together for £3.20.
