Record Grading
(SS) STILL SEALED
(NM) NEAR MINT: Near mint records are shiny and free of visible defects. No writing, stickers, other markings or spindle marks appear on the label. No major factory defects are present. If played, an NM record will do so without surface noise. Album cover is sharp with no wear or splits.
(VG++) VERY GOOD + + (Excellent): VG++ records may show some slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience. Slight warps that don’t affect the sound are OK. Minor signs of handling, minor writing, sticker on the label too, such as telltale marks around the center hole, so long as repeated playing has not misshapen the hole. Album cover shows slight age but is still sharp.
(VG+) VERY GOOD +: VG+ records may show some light signs of wear, including light scuffs or light scratches that may affect the listening experience with a slight ´ticks here – there/or some light surface noise, mostly noticeable on the quietest passages and blank spaces. Some wear marks and slightly rounded corners on album jacket.
(VG) VERY GOOD: VG records have more obvious flaws than their counterparts in better shape. They lack most of the original gloss found on factory-fresh records. Groove wear is evident on sight, as are light scratches deep enough to feel with a fingernail. When played, a VG record has surface noise, and some scratches may be audible, especially in soft passages and during a song’s intro and ending. But the noise won’t overpower the music otherwise. They remain a fine listening experience, just not the same as if it were in better shape.
(G) GOOD: G some scratches on vinyl that can be heard but are not too distracting; album cover shows plenty of use, including rounded edges, some split seams, writing, stickers and/or front cover wear.
(F) FAIR: F Record may have pen marks or wear spots on the label; cover shows serious distress. The record might have a warp or loud crackling noises upon play.
