This is the LP by Led Zeppelin “Led Zeppelin II” Catalog# SD 8236 Atlantic Records 1969
Dead Wax: Side 1: W AT ST-A -691671-A WLP 13933 RL in third ring, Side 2: W ST-A-691672-A WLP RL SS 13933-X (2).
Jacket (VG) There is some lighter corner wear. Small seam split bottom right outer gate-fold. A few spots and some discolor to the white parts. Gate-fold is in tact . Spine is legible. Comes with protective plastic sleeve.
Inner Sleeve/LP (Good+/VG-) Plain inner sleeve. Red and Green 1841 Broadway Atlantic label. No rips or defacing of labels, more wear on side one. Vinyl has some surface blemishes and a few scratches. One skip noticed on W.L. Love. There are no other skips or repeats due to scratches. Needle jumps can and do occur on the RL version of this on older turntables. Some songs include WIAWSNB, Heratbreaker, M.Dick and Ramble On. There is crackling here and there throughout, but it does not kill the music. Good overall listen. Crazy loud sound. It is not the best copy around, but it is an original and I will price it fairly and lower than most.
Of interest: Original RL pressing. With smaller dead wax area on side two.
"We first got the idea for Swan Song after Atlantic f- up the pressings for Led Zeppelin II. They actually ran off 100,000 copies which jumped all over the place because they didn’t follow Jimmy’s precise instructions on the master tape." (Peter Grant)
****SALEM ATTIC NOTES**** All records are inspected beforehand. If they need to be cleaned, then I do so. I use a spin clean system, that does a good job. Sometimes it does not get out the real tough stuff, so I do that by hand if I need to. I then check the LP's for scratches, lighter blemishes, warps etc.. I sound check any record that has even slight blemishes, and after sound checking will note any issues I noticed or lack there of in this product information page. If the jacket needs a dusting I dust it. I then put all standard sized record jackets in 2 or 3 mil. protective sleeves. The standard way I ship is with the LP behind the cover to prevent ring wear and other damage to jacket. If you have a specific way you like your LP's shipped let me know. During mailing all LP's are housed in double cardboard padded record mailers.
My record grading system, forever evolving..............
Mint (M)
(Jacket) There will be no flaws. The jacket will be factory sealed with perfect or close to perfect corners.
(LP) The vinyl itself should be without flaws since the jacket surrounding it has never been opened.
Mint Minus (M-)
(Jacket) The jacket will most likely be sealed in original shrink, but there may be some shrink missing. There may be slight wear from storage at the corners. There will be no ring wear, writing, rips or tears, tape, seam splits of any kind. No yellowing of any kind unless to to extreme age. No stains or water damage.
(LP) The vinyl itself should be without flaws since the jacket surrounding it has never been opened.
Near Mint (NM)
(Jacket) If the jacket is sealed there may be some minor corner damage from storage, it may or may not have the shrink-wrap, but the jacket itself will be in pristine condition. The corners will show very little wear (there will be no fraying) and will still be somewhat pointy to the touch. The cover will show no more than very minor dents or some single creases, no full bends that will cause multiple creases/damage. There will be no visible ring wear. No writing, rips or tears on the cover or seams. No bubbling, water/mold stains or peeling of the cover in any way. The inside of the gate-fold will be in the same condition. Cutout bin punches, price stickers, staples would start being listed at the NM category and would be noted accordingly as they affect the jacket itself.
(LP) You should not hear any surface noise (snaps, crackles, pops) when you play the record. There will not be any skips or repeats. The LP will retain that just opened appearance. There may be a surface blemish or two, but they will not have any affect on the sound. There will be no warping. There will be no major blemishes, light or deep scratches. The label will be free of writing and stains. There should be no spindle marks.
Near Mint Minus (NM-)
(Jacket) May or may not have shrink-wrap but the jacket itself will still be in beautiful condition. The corners will have minimal wear (no fraying). There may be minor dents and creases . Light scratches could be on the jacket, but nothing severe. Depending on age some discolor/yellowing may show, but will not be overbearing. Ring wear should be very minimal or non-existent...no dark, full, half, or quarter rings. No writing rips or tears. No bubbling, water stains or peeling of the cover . All inner gate-folds will be in similar condition.
(LP) You should not hear any sustained surface noise (snaps, crackles, pops) when you play the record. There will not be any skips or repeats. The LP will retain its most of it's glossiness and will appear like new. There may be a few surface blemishes, or a stray light scratch that may cause a moment of crackling, but nothing prolonged, and instances of this will be few. Often this will mostly occur only at the beginning of the groove on each side where the needle dropped. There will be no warping. There will be no deep scratches. There may be minor spotting or fog, but it will not affect the sound. The label will be free of writing and stains. Minimal spindle marks.
Very Good Plus (VG+)
(Jacket) May or may not have shrink wrap. There may be some easier to see imperfections, though nothing that will detract from the overall appearance in a major way. The corners will have some wear and there may be the beginnings of fraying but not full on. Some dents/creases or scratches may be noticeable, but nothing too pronounced. There could be noticeable discolor/yellowing .There may be some minor ring wear at the top and bottom; again you would have to look for it. No writing, rips or tears. Possibly some light bubbling. No water/mold stains or peeling of the cover in any way.
(LP) There may be some blemishes, maybe a scratch or two, but nothing too deep. It
will not cause the record to skip or repeat. There will be no prolonged surface noise. There may be some minor warping but it will have no affect on the
listening experience at all. Chances are there will be spindle marks. A VG+ record will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it.
Very Good (VG/VG-)
(Jacket) May or may not have shrink wrap. There will be some easier to see imperfections, though nothing that will detract from the overall appearance in a major way. The corners will have some wear or fraying possibly causing seam splitting close to the seam. There may be split seams on any side. Usually not full side splits though. Sometimes they may be fixed by tape, sometimes not. Some dents/creases or scratches will be noticeable on the jacket, sometimes pronounced. Discolor and yellowing can be commonplace, as are smaller water/mold stains and some bubbling. There maybe a smaller tear on the cover, but nothing overly pronounced. Ring wear will certainly be pronounced. There may be some writing/defacing, but it will be minor.
(LP) There will be some blemishes, and some few scratches. They should not be at the feel-able stage though. There could be a skip or repeat, but only one or two at most. More often the deeper scratches will cause more frequent and prolonged surface noise. There may be some warping but it will not cause the needle to jump. Chances are there will be spindle marks. A VG/VG- record will obviously have been played and occasionally handled roughly by the original owner.
(Good, Fair)
(Jacket) This jacket will have easily noticeable imperfections. The corners could show heavy wear and fraying. The jacket will have seam splits on multiple sides that may or may not have been taped. It will most likely be marred by multiple instances of defacing, creases, dents and bends, water/mold stains and bubbling. The cover could be torn in spot. Ring wear will be pronounced.
(LP) A record in Good or Fair condition can be put onto a turntable and should be playable. There will be multiple deeper and feel-able scratches that will make for significant surface noise (snaps and crackles & pops) and also cause skips and/or repeats. Spindle marks will be present. There could be quite a few spots and fog. Heavy groove wear may also be visible.
(Poor)
(Jacket) The jacket will have major/full side seem splits. The vinyl may not be able to stay in the jacket without falling out. The jacket may be severely water or mold stained. There could be dents, large scratches or rips on the cover. It could have severe, blister-like bubbling. Sometimes it may have full cover writing with doodles and artwork defacing. The corners may be completely worn.
(LP) The record won't play through without skipping or repeating multiple times. Many of the scratches are deep and you can feel them. The record may be severely warped or cracked. The label could be stained, signed or doodled on. There will be multiple spindle marks. Usually the record is "barely listenable" at best.
Note****If posters, booklets and other inserts are included with any of the records, their condition will be noted if less than the overall grade of the jacket itself.
