I have cleaned this lp with a wet vac VPI Hw 16.5 and Played it all the way through both sides on a high quality sound system .
I am selling this record for a friend of mine , He wanted t to sell it earlier this year, but I refused saying it was just too special and he should wait till he really has to have the money . Well that time is now . He bought this lp and several other records from an estate sale of the original owner who was stationed in England in the 50's . He was known to be first in line to pick up new classical records when they were first issued . This Lp is perhaps one of the first stereo records ever issued to the public as it was recorded in 1957 but released in 1958 . It carries the 1957 XT Tax stamp ( see photo ) which was the stamp used from June 1st 1957 till September 30th 1958. I have checked all sales that are available via popsike . collectors frenzy, Gemm etc and I cant find a record of sale of any other XT tax stamp on SAX 2252 . just UT and ET . Google" LondonJazzCollector " for more info on the tax code stamps.
the record Looks Unplayed no marks on the vinyl or label
the cover is NM + with only the tiniest bits of wear on the corners
The record Plays Ex + both sides . There are some soft tics hear and there and a few noticeable pops. I don't know If the original owner played this lp . My friend played it once and I have played it twice ( once to play test and once to let my wife and , son who is 6 years into piano lessons hear this stunning performance . ) Given the early issue and the immaculate condition I would have to conclude that all the sporadic noise I heard is origianl to the vinyl and may in fact reduce with a few more plays .
I will ship this lp in a double box with bubble wrap and the Lp outside the sleeve . Shipping costs to be determined by the buyer
I give 3 grades for each record.
1. The visual look of the vinyl
Some times records look good and play bad sometimes they look bad but play great .
Mint no evidence of play
Near Mint NM a spindle mark or two . a few faint marks of evidence of handling but nothing that looks like it would be audible .
Excellent EX more than a few spindle marks obvious evidence of handling but again nothing that should be audible .
2. 2. The condition of the cover
Covers are graded as follows
Mint no signs of wear , still in shrink wrap no bent corners , no cut out damage .
Near Mint . a small amount of wear on the corners . perhaps some yellowing on really old covers , the beginning of ring wear .
Excellent. clean spine . some corner wear . Some light ring wear no splits or cracks .On some European covers the glue may have come undone on one or more of the seams buty otherwise little to no wear .
3.Play grade
My opinion of the level of sporadic noise, pops, tics etc … this kind of noise may be due to the original vinyl, bits of dust my VPI missed or other reasons. New unplayed records sometimes have this kind of noise, but I want to give as honest an assessment of the records as I can
Mint Mint
If
a record plays with no sporadic noise whatsoever I give it a grade Mint
A few soft pops here and there a NM grade
A noticeable amount if your are paying attention to the noise and not the music EX
