Stu Gardner is among the last of America’s soul men. He recorded for both Stax and Motown, a rare duality that speaks to his persistence and diverse talents. As an artist, he was known for his inspired keyboard playing, creative covers and screaming like his soul was on fire. As a composer, he wrote much of his own material, as well as songs for other artists, film and television. Stu's best known work is part of American history, “Kiss Me,” the theme for The Cosby Show.” He’s also responsible of the opening sounds of other living room favorites, such as “A Different World,” “Living Single,” and “Little Bill.” On the big screen, Gardner contributed to the soundtracks of “Point Blank,” “The Klansman,” and “Faces.” Stu is still writing and recording at age 75. But he’s also looking back, preparing to share some of the unreleased soul and funk sounds he kept sealed in a garage vault for two decades.
