Brief Artist & Album Info: Formed in 1969 as the rise in British progressive rock was getting into top gear, the original three members were: Vincent Crane (formerly Crazy World of Arthur Brown – keyboards), Nick Graham (bass) and Carl Palmer (formerly Crazy World of Arthur Brown – drums). This is the band’s third album, it blends progressive rock with heavy metal elements, this again is a very fine album, arguably their best – all the first three are worth checking out, they should appeal to fans of Black Sabbath, Kingdom Come and Black Widow et al. It sold quite well on the success of the hit single ‘The Devil’s Answer’ that was not included on the UK version of the album. The cover on this copy has a little wear and gently aged, but the record is superb and appears hardly played, offering clean and impressive sound.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(–): an unlaminated gatefold format with matt, smooth surfaces. Artwork drawn by Roger Dean. Printed and made by the E. J. Day Group.

Cover Front: Still an attractive front with any surface marks ultra fine and faint as seen critically under angled light. Amy rubbing faint, the same for creasing being mainly fine edge types. Lightly aged with minor grubbiness or gentle discolouration, but retaining excellent colour with no sticker tears for which this cover seems intolerant. All highly respectable as m picture will show.

Cover Back: The back is practically the same. Just the faintest hint of rim rubbing near the edges, but barely any ink removed. In terms of this cover, both front and back have survived the years pretty well.

Cover Inner Gatefold: The odd light crease that shows little, not a great deal else to really fault on more impressive Roger Dean artwork.

Top Edges: Light to more moderate patchy rubbing. Both straight with no splits.

Bottom Edges: Consistent moderate rubbing, again straight, no splits.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Both neat and mostly sharp to very with little wear. Any thickening or burring minimal and light as seen viewed end-on. Record entered on the back edge, both guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced in any way.

Spine and Text: Solid, straight with barely any compression. Folded square, so the edges meet up flush and parallel, one of the best I have seen in that respect. Light very patchy rubbing and gently faded, most-all of the text present with just the odd tiny letter clip. The hinge folds also retain most ink and remain strong, a trace of toning also hard to avoid.

Corners: Moderate corner rubbing with fine shape retained. A little tip creasing on some.

Cover Summary: With most visible wear on the top and bottom edges and the main areas still attractive, this will please many collectors. But not the perfectionists, finding perfect ones incredibly difficult, this is a known cover that always prove a challenge. The plain white solid unlined inner is impressively clean and barely aged or creased. All edges unsplit with no repairs.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT: even with a few surface marks that are totally superficial and non-sounding. A very fine visual copy that I feel sure has been only lightly played. Very clean with excellent shine and solidly pressed with no penetrating stylus scratches. An impressive vintage record, again these types often seen badly scratches and played to destruction. This excellent copy will please many collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or miniscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This vintage Pegasus record plays even above its visual grading with very little to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is high with a full dynamic range and very detailed sound. Minimal surface sound and no tracking issues, this proved another enjoyable listen. Nothing of any note spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this rock classic. It should please many collectors again.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
