                                      Pink Floyd
                               Dark Side of The Moon
Limited Tour Edition On Pink Vinyl
                               Quadraphonic or Stereo
                                     LP Vinyl Record

A stunning copy.

If you look at the pictures of the Pink Vinyl - The colour is actually more like the top of the record.
The camera flash washes out a lot of the proper colour in the foreground, but it is more like the darker tone than the light tone.

This copy is Near Mint, with  whisper quiet deadwax  - Run in, Run out and Quiet areas - essential with this record...
every magnificent detail in pure golden silence..

The heartbeat running in... I've been mad for f_cking years, absolutely years...in pure golden silence...

This is as good as copy of this Original 1988, Limited Tour Edition, Pink Vinyl issue as you will find, both visually and sonically. - Vinyl, Cover and Labels.

A Top Copy. Archival.

This is the first and only issue of The Pink Floyd masterpiece, "Dark Side Of The Moon" to be pressed on Pink Vinyl.
The vinyl is high quality and weighs a solid 144 grams.
SQ - The record allows splitting to four channel quadraphonic or two channel stereo.
There were only 3000 of them.
I wonder how many official ones are left??

Side A:  Matrix #    QHVL 804 A-3   SHVLA 804-A

Side B :  Matrix #   QHVL 804 B-3   SHVLA 804-B  6B

Sleeve / Cover  -  EX+   ( see pics - small wrinkle creases near spine and a very faint disc impression to the rear of the gatefold)

Has its original half round poly inner.
                                             A magnificent example.

All pictures are high resolution and should magnify well.

(SQ) - This record will play on both Stereo & Quadraphonic systems.
This record will split to four channels on a quad system, or will split to two channels on a stereo system.
The playback quality from these Australian pink SQ pressings is magnificent, pressed on high quality vinyl.
The clarity is exceptional, and sounds a lot better than the 87 black vinyl issue.
The quality of the vinyl is better.

Coloured vinyl is no impediment to sound quality
Some people have that confused with picture discs... picture discs are not good quality sound wise,
Black vinyl is colored vinyl.
Vinyl is actually clear.

Part of this myth also stems from some companies re-using mis-pressed vinyl for coloured vinyl issues, and often left contaminants in the vinyl when it was re-cycled. This caused degradation in the vinyl quality, and colour (which is why they coloured them differently) -  but that is not the case with many coloured vinyl issues, that were pressed on virgin coloured vinyl - like this one
The quietest record I have ever not heard (as far as quiet areas), was a Bendiction record on white vinyl. (Transcend the Rubicon) - it was so very smoothly quiet.

Note
Please note that the info on Discogs is incorrect. I have made submissions to correct the data, but you can find the correct info on the Pink Floyd Archives web site.

You must be very careful with this issue, as the information on Discogs is representing a lot of the reissue information.
Due to this misinformation, reissues are being sold as originals, and cross referencing the information on Discogs will send you on a mission to pay over $200 for a $40 reissue.

Here is an example... sold for $122 - worth about $30 for novelty value and $1 for sound quality!

Note the colour pink is true pink, not the original Salmon Pink, and the seller has covered the area where the sticker is... the buyer got ripped off, that is an unofficial fake.

In my humble opinion, the original Aussie SQ pink vinyl editions are one of the best issues to have in your collection.
For sound, the UK First issues are number one, but these are number two on the list in my mind, because you get so much else -

Official (most important)
Quadraphonic or Stereo playback.
The appropriate colour for Pink Floyd... Pink, a lovely salmon pink.
The Limited Edition and rarity of only 3000 Pressed Vs many millions of rabid fans worldwide.
Directly linked to a concert tour,
Was sold at the concerts as concert merchandise.
High quality pink vinyl and sound engineering from Australia.

As the internet makes so much of the information available across the planet, this issue is gaining in desirability... this is a real show piece that really plays extremely well.

This was pressed as an afterthought in 1988 when Pink Floyd toured Australia on the Momentary Lapse Of Reason tour.
There was an official Australian SQ pressing in black Vinyl in1987, so that issue had been completed a few months prior.
When this limited pink vinyl issue was pressed, there were no posters or stickers left, and the sleeve is exactly the same one used for the black vinyl issue, just with the Limited Tour Edition sticker stuck on it.
It was probably pressed in late 87 as in was sold in January / February 1988.

The first one of these I ever bought was for $60.00 in 1988, about 3 months after the release... it was from a dealer, as very few of these made it to Perth Western Australia as they were only sold in the eastern states.
They were about $15.00 retail and were sold at the Australian concerts, and instantly quadrupled in value when they sold out - which happened in just a couple of concerts.
These are the only 3000 OFFICIAL pink vinyl pressings of Dark Side Of The Moon in the world.
Over 30 Million copies sold, only 3000 on pink vinyl.
There were suposed to be 6 (x2) stampers used (6 x 500 records per (x2) stamper = 3000 records), so there should be a Matrix for each one.
My uneducated guess, is it goes 6A - 6B - 6C - 6D - 6E - 6F  for the indicators that are on the B side.
The coding used seems to be a ABC/123
This one is 6B..

The reissues are different and are not official.
The sticker is not a sticker - it is actually printed on the sleeve, and the print says Limited Edition Coloured Vinyl, NOT Pink vinyl...
The audio is terrible on the unofficial reissues and even though it has the SQ logo on the sleeve, it is not Quadraphonic - it will NOT split to 4 channels on a Quadraphonic system
Be wary of these without the sticker, as they are more likely an unofficial reissue placed into a black vinyl SQ sleeve.
The only difference between the Australian black vinyl SQ sleeve and the pink vinyl SQ sleeve, is the sticker.

This brilliant album was engineered to be heard in Quadraphonic,
Because the quadraphonic mix of the album was not complete when the stereo issue was released, Pink Floyd boycotted their own press reception that was held at the London Planetarium on 27th of February 1973.
Pink Floyd considered the album to be complete ONLY when the original Quadraphonic issue was released in December 1973
The guests were, instead, presented with four life-sized cardboard cut-outs of the band, and the stereo mix of the album was presented through a poor-quality PA system

It seems they were sticking it up EMI even before this album sent them into the stratosphere.

That is a strange PF fact.
Pure integrity.
You just gotta love em.

Pink Floyd on Pink Vinyl..... Priceless (times four)
