*One sided-12" pressed on splattered vinyl, pressed at Pallas, includes free download* "Making use of original vocal parts from tricky and Francesca Belmonte, 'Valentine' has been completely re-built by Andy Stott, a split-level production that pushes into slow-fast territory with immense bass terror before flexing out into a footwork section that bangs hard. Everyone goes on about Maxinquaye and, yeah, it's a total classic, but for us Tricky's 'Nearly God' side project, especially 'Poems', has always stood out as a pop anomaly that still sounds incredible and out-of-time almost 20 years on. There's something in the aesthetic on this remix that reminds us of that track, those wrong-footed progressions, timing all over the place, a woozy antecedent to the sound Andy Stott has kind of made his own these last couple of years. But it's the final two minute stretch here that really slays - hooked in with a vocal loop and a f*cking racket of field recordings (not that you'd know) that turns this into something that's just completely off the hook. If you used to like Tricky back in the day but stopped listening after 'Pre-Millennium Tension', or if you're a follower of Stott's work - this is an absolute must."
