A creative and geographical challenge, The Wombats third full-length was spawned from ideas bounced back and forth across the Atlantic, with singer Matthew Murphy relocating from the group’s Liverpool base to a new haunt in Los Angeles.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the city - in particular its “opulence and anxiety” - has had a huge effect on his writing.

More specifically, the record focuses on a fantasy of a tumultuous relationship with a fictional L.A. woman - though this in many ways became reality when he found love within its confines.

Belittling its challenging conception, Glitterbug moreover finds The Wombats going from strength to strength, and given their enduring appeal could well prove their most popular release yet.
