Originally released in 1973, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath was the fifth Black Sabbath studio album, and one which the extended the experimental arm shown on its predecessor, Vol. 4.
Incorporating more complex and ambitious arrangements, guitarist and creative kingpin Tony Iommi added keyboards, synths and even strings to the band’s palette, though never at the expense of the towering, gargantuan riffs for which he became so iconic.
Indeed, despite suffering from writer’s block during the album’s creation, he still winded up penning one of their definitive anthems in its furious title track; a standout on an LP widely regarded a classic.
And Iommi himself is seemingly among them, describing it as the pinnacle of the group’s career in his 2011 autobiography Iron Man.
