Shirley Ellis is perhaps best known for her novelty pop songs such as The Nitty Gritty and her million selling Clapping Song, but for Northern Soul fans it all happened a year later in 1966 with Soul Time.
The perfect title, the perfect intro and featuring the unforgettable chant “ready, get set, 2-4-6-8-10, 2-4-6-8-22!” the record helped her become Australia’s most popular female pop star, and even led to her becoming known as Miss Mod Australia.
This special 7” meanwhile, also features her northern soul cut Stranger In My Arms; originally pressed as the B-side to her Australian hit Ciao Baby.
